چکیده
Two complementary approaches were used to assess year-round variation in the diet of sea otters Enhydra lutris around Prince Wales Island (POW) southern Southeast Alaska, a region characterized by mixed-bottom habitat. We observed foraging determine composition during spring and summer. Then, we obtained otter vibrissae, which record temporal patterns as they grow, from subsistence hunters identify changes diets via stable isotope analysis carbon (δ 13 C) nitrogen 15 N). compared isotopes vibrissae prey items that collected spring, summer, winter. Overall, estimates signatures visual observations summer dominated clams terms biomass, with butter Saxidomus gigantea most common clam species seen observations. Our results indicate these otters, when considered together at regional level POW, do not exhibit shifts main source season or location. However, identified had strong individual-level variation. Behavioral among individual may be primary driving factor composition. This study provides quantitative data for modeling predictions invertebrate population aid future management shellfisheries hunting development co-management strategies this protected species.

Assessment and management of sea turtle populations is often limited by a lack of available data pertaining to at-sea distributions at appropriate spatial and temporal resolutions. Assessing the spatial and temporal distributions of marine turtles in an open system poses both observational and analytical challenges due to the turtles' highly migratory nature. Surface counts of marine turtles in...

Background and Aim: Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases in adolescents and young adults. Although acne do not physically disable the patient, it can cause significant psychological morbidities. The disease etiology is not fully understood; however, there are several factors involved in the pathogenesis. The aim of this study is to investigate the seasonal variation of acne vul...
متن کاملPatterns in sea otter resource selection in Kachemak Bay, Alaska
Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) are known to forage extensively in both rocky and soft-bottom habitats throughout their range in Alaska. Their ability to significantly reduce prey abundance, limit prey size, and consequently alter community structure has been well documented. Much of this research, however, has focused on sea otter interactions with rocky habitats and associated epifaunal invertebr...

The aim of the present study was to determine seasonal variations in semen characteristics, testicular size, and plasma testosterone concentration in Iranian Khalkhali goats. An artificial vagina was used to collect semen from 10 bucks (2–4 years of age), from November 2013 to October 2014. Testicular circumference was higher (P<0.05) from September to October. Ejaculate volume, sperm ...
